Introduction
Established in 2010, Aware3 provides a comprehensive member engagement platform, aiming to empower church communities in fulfilling their mission. Through customizable digital tools, Aware3 enables churches and nonprofits to enhance communication, boost engagement, foster g generosity, and facilitate connections among donors, partners, and volunteers to better serve their communities.
Among the array of tools provided by Aware3 are:
Church Mobile App
Text Messaging
Multi-Channel Giving
Forms and Registrations
Problem
Today, the form builder restricts admins to setting a fixed amount on donation forms, without the option to include a field for users to enter a custom amount. As a result, users do not have the flexibility to contribute any amount they choose.
Goal
To enhance the existing donation feature by introducing an open donation form field. This enhancement will allow admins to pre-fill a suggested donation amount, link a specific fund with the open donation field, and support both quantity-based transactions and open-ended contributions within a single form.
Impact
We identified the necessity for an open donation feature, enabling admins to incorporate this option when creating a donation form.
Following the prioritization of needs identified through the survey, I began drafting and conceptualizing ideas. Subsequently, I presented the first iteration to our Business Analysts and collaborated with them to ensure alignment with the business requirements.
Incorporating the feedback received, I proceeded to refine the design for the second iteration, including an interaction demonstrating how admins could integrate the open donation feature. This revised iteration underwent review by both the Business Analysts and the Developer team, and adjustments were made in response to the feedback provided.

Survey
In order to grasp the key considerations in utilizing forms for donations and payments, and to identify any potential oversights concerning the enhancement of open-form donations, a survey was conducted.
Two assumptions we wanted to test:
If we support both quantity-based transactions and open donations, it is necessary to allow these to go to different funds.
There is great value in open-form donations. Use cases are clear and apparent.
Questions we asked in our survey:
What matters the most to you or your organization when utilizing forms to receive donations?
What scenarios, if any, require you to use forms to accept a donation of any amount from a donor?
What scenarios, if any, require you to create forms that allow for both a purchase/quantity-based payment and a voluntary donation of any amount?
If the above applies to your organization, into which of your fund(s) do these purchases and donations need to flow?
